We aim to provide a space to teach and create a community that is accessible to everyone. Breaking into the theatre space can be difficult, we want to demystify the process and extend a hand to anyone wishing to pursue a career in the theatrical arts.Â
We want to tell untold stories, to educate through drama and to create something meaningful.
About us

Dare Tell CIC is a non-profit theatre production company who are keen to create a space for professionals and newcomers to the theatre industry.
Founded by Dr Mark Cainen, a scriptwriter, producer, actor and university lecturer, our mission is to shed light on the untold stories of real people all around us and to provide opportunities to forge connections and to maintain a network of the impressive talent of Swansea.

I am really excited to be part of the team at Dare Tell CIC. Having grown up in the dance world, I understand how intimidating the arts can feel. I am passionate about creating accessible spaces in theatre where people can express themselves through writing, acting or movement.
For me, theatre moves forward by exploring new ideas while drawing on history, culture and literature. I hope we can create something meaningful together.
Rachel Smith

Rachel Smith is the executive assistant at Dare Tell CIC. She recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA (Hons) in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic.
During her time at university, Rachel competed as a member of the Cambridge University Dance Competition Team and choreographed pieces for the Cambridge University Dance Society’s annual shows. She also served as an outreach officer for the Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Society, helping to create accessible spaces for students and prospective applicants.
Rachel worked on Cooper the Musical as Mark Cainen’s assistant and is excited about the work ahead at Dare Tell.
Dr Mark Cainen
I want to build a lasting home for new writing here in Swansea, a place where people can develop their craft and find support for their work. I’m passionate about bringing people together and creating a welcoming, accessible theatre community.
I know from my own experience how education and theatre can change a life. I want to help open that door for others, especially anyone who has ever felt that theatre isn’t for them.

Mark Cainen is a producer, university lecturer, writer, funeral celebrant and British Red Cross team leader.
His writing includes Conviction, a prison drama developed through his doctoral research into prejudice against former offenders. Following productions in Swansea, Conviction is scheduled to tour Wales and England in 2027. He also produced Swansea Boy, written by Sean Mathias, which ran for three weeks and played to full houses.
Mark teaches Creative Writing and Scriptwriting at Cardiff Metropolitan University and previously worked as an associate lecturer at the University of the West of England. His teaching helps students develop their craft and prepare for careers in the creative industries.
Most recently, Mark produced and performed in Cooper the Musical, which ran for a week at the Swansea Grand Theatre’s Arts Wing.
